What are Lumineers?

In short, Lumineers are a unique brand of veneer. Each one is a shell made of ultra-thin, laminate porcelain instead of the usual kind.

Lumineers have much the same role as regular veneers. Once placed on the fronts of teeth, they can hide nearly any smile flaw – stains, chips, cracks, and more. Their material also ensures they match your other teeth in size, shape, and color. However, these shells take less preparation and advanced dental work than veneers. They can also be removed as needed with minimal damage to your teeth.

The Process of Getting Lumineers

Like porcelain veneers, Lumineers require two visits to be placed. The first one prepares a few things so your restorations will fit well. Later, our team places the final veneers at the second appointment.

The “prep visit” is shorter for Lumineers than for normal veneers. Since the shells are so thin, Dr. Song won’t need to trim any enamel from your teeth. He’ll just take a dental impression and send it to a lab, which will make your Lumineers in 2-4 weeks. You won’t wear temporary shells in the meantime, as you won’t need them.

Once your Lumineers are ready, you’ll attend your second visit. Our team will then place the final shells over the relevant teeth and make last-minute changes. You’ll then be ready to enjoy your improved smile!

The Benefits of Lumineers

If you decide to get Lumineers, trust that the shells offer many perks. These include:

  • A Beautiful Smile – Lumineers use high-quality laminate porcelain, so they’ll match your surrounding teeth. Friends or family shouldn’t even notice you have them!
  • Shorter Prep Time – Due to being so thin, Lumineers don’t have an extended prep process. That means it takes less time to get them than regular veneers.
  • Semi-Permanence – Lumineers are semi-permanent. Even after they’re applied, they can be removed without harming your smile.
  • Lasting Results – The average Lumineer can last about 10-15 years.

Understanding the Cost of Lumineers

Lumineers aren’t as expensive as veneers, but their price may still worry you. Fair enough – dental insurance (at least in general) doesn’t cover cosmetic dentistry. However, the cost of Lumineers varies from patient to patient; you should consult Dr. Song for a precise estimate. Our practice will also work to make your care more affordable for you. In fact, we’ll gladly walk you through Lumineers’ pricing factors, payment options, and other details as needed.
