Happy Birthday to Those Born in March – And a Few Dental Tips for a Healthy Smile

March is a wonderful time of year. Spring is right around the corner, the days are getting longer, and it’s the perfect season for fresh starts. At Dr. Song Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we’d like to wish a very Happy Birthday to everyone celebrating a birthday in March!

If your birthday falls this month, it’s also a great reminder to give yourself a gift that lasts all year long — a healthy smile.

Just like spring cleaning your home, March is the perfect time to refresh your dental care routine and focus on your oral health.

1. Replace Your Toothbrush

If you can’t remember the last time you replaced your toothbrush, now is a great time to do it. Dental professionals recommend changing your toothbrush or electric brush head every 3–4 months, or sooner if the bristles are worn.

A fresh toothbrush helps remove plaque more effectively and keeps bacteria from building up on old bristles.

2. Brush Twice a Day (for Two Minutes)

Brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste is one of the most important habits for protecting your teeth from cavities and gum disease. Plaque bacteria constantly form on teeth, and brushing removes it before it hardens into tartar.

Be sure to brush for at least two minutes and don’t forget to brush along the gumline and your tongue.

3. Don’t Skip the Floss

Flossing may seem small, but it makes a big difference. Brushing only cleans part of your tooth surfaces, while floss removes plaque and food particles from between teeth where toothbrush bristles can’t reach.

Flossing daily can help prevent cavities, gum disease, and bad breath.

4. Choose Smile-Friendly Foods

Spring is a great time to add more fresh fruits and vegetables to your meals. Crunchy foods like apples, carrots, and celery can help stimulate saliva and naturally clean your teeth while you chew.

Also try to limit sugary snacks and drinks, which feed bacteria that cause tooth decay.

5. Schedule Your Dental Checkup

One of the best gifts you can give yourself this year is a routine dental exam and cleaning. Regular visits help catch small problems before they turn into bigger issues and keep your smile looking its best.

If it’s been more than six months since your last dental visit, March is a great time to schedule an appointment.
